Kitchen Mini Tomato Red Velvet
The ‘Kitchen Mini Tomato Red Velvet’ is almost too bizarre to be real, the leaves and stems of this extraordinary heirloom plant being a fuzzy silvery gray color, whilst the skins of these scrumptious, super sweet little red cherry tomatoes are velvety! This is not only an ornamental plant, though, as the fruit is absolutely delicious. This spectacular novelty tomato, a great selection for a patio garden, grown from these rare seeds, might be the most beautiful ornamental vegetable you will ever grow and is guaranteed to turn heads! SOWING ADVICE
Seeds are surface-sown or covered only slightly. Do not allow the soil to dry out. Containers are held in warm conditions until sprouts appear, which may take anywhere from 3-10 days. Move sprouting plantings immediately to bright light conditions, such as a south-facing window. Inadequate light is a frequent cause of failure of young seedlings. At about the time of last frost, set out seedlings into grow bags. Plants may need staking but there is no need to remove the side shoots.
The collection includes tabletop vegetable plants consumers can grow inside on a sunny windowsill or counter without a garden! They can also be grown outside on a patio table.
Easy-to-grow Kitchen Minis encourage consumers to harvest and enjoy their own homegrown vegetables, then when the plant is finished fruiting, buy a fresh plant to harvest from every few weeks!
- Plant benefits from being grown dry. Support fruit weight by inserting sticks close to the central stem at the time of flowering.
- Red Velvet will brighten up your windowsill or patio table, and it has a tidy plant habit. Red Velvet provides beautiful red-colored fruit that is deliciously sweet for your recipes!
They are suited for a 4-6 inch pot they have a very high quality of seed. In addition they were chosen because of their intense favor. The vigorous plants of ‘Velvet Red’ are very productive and have interesting, bluish-green, some say silvery-gray, colored, regular leaf foliage. Although we have not personally experienced it, some report that “non-silvery” plants occur on occasion.
The small, one-inch cherry tomatoes are bright red in color, globe-shaped, and have an excellent, sweet flavor. As the fruits are developing, their skin exhibits a pubescence (fuzziness) similar to “peach-type” varieties, but it diminishes as they mature.
